ABDM & ABHA

ABDM Integration Software for ABHA and Health Records

Sehat Nxt is ABDM integration software for Indian hospitals and clinics, and is ABDM M1, M2 & M3 Ready. The front desk can create or verify a patient's ABHA, accept a Scan & Share profile into an OPD token, and link the patient to their hospital record. ABDM connects through an ABDM connector partner, so the hospital does not build its own gateway integration.

  • ABHA at the desk

Create a new ABHA or verify an existing one for the patient during registration.

  • Scan & Share to token

A patient scans the hospital's QR with their health app and their shared profile becomes an OPD token.

  • Linked to your UHID

The ABHA is linked to the patient's hospital record, so their visits stay connected.

  • Choose what to share

Staff pick which records to link to the patient's ABHA.

  • Switch on per hospital

ABDM is enabled per hospital from settings, with its facility details.

How it works

  1. The hospital enables ABDM in Sehat Nxt settings with its facility details.
  2. At registration, the front desk creates or verifies the patient's ABHA, or the patient uses Scan & Share at the counter.
  3. The ABHA is linked to the patient's hospital UHID.
  4. After the visit, staff choose which records to link to the patient's ABHA.
  5. Linked records are shared through ABDM only with the patient's consent.

M1, M2 and M3 in plain words

ABDM, the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission, groups the work for software into three milestones. Sehat Nxt is ABDM M1, M2 & M3 Ready. Here is what each milestone means for a hospital.

MilestoneRoleWhat it means for your hospital
M1ABHACreate or verify a patient's ABHA number and address, accept Scan & Share, and link the ABHA to your patient record
M2Health information provider (HIP)Link your patient's records, such as prescriptions and reports, to their ABHA and share them when the patient consents
M3Health information user (HIU)Request a patient's records from other facilities, which they share only after the patient gives consent

In each case the patient stays in control. Records move between facilities only with the patient's consent, given through their ABHA app.

Who it is for

It is for clinics and hospitals that want their patients' records to be part of the national digital health system, and for facilities that see patients under schemes that expect ABHA at registration.

Key capabilities

  • ABHA creation and verification inside the registration flow.
  • Scan & Share: a patient's shared profile arrives at the desk and becomes an OPD token.
  • ABHA linking to the patient's UHID, with a check for matching patients.
  • Record linking: staff pick prescriptions, reports and IPD records to link to the patient's ABHA.
  • Standard clinical terms picked from an ABDM terminology list when filling the relevant fields.
  • Per-hospital switch so ABDM is on only where the hospital has set it up.

What changes for your staff

Very little. ABHA steps sit inside the normal registration screen, and linking records is a choice staff make on the patient's record. Doctors keep writing prescriptions and reports the same way.

For admitted patients, the IPD clinical details needed for ABDM can be filled on the admission and exported from there, so the discharge record can be linked as well.

How it connects to other modules

ABHA verification happens at registration in the live OPD queue. The records linked to ABHA come from EMR and digital prescription, the laboratory and IPD management.

Questions about ABDM & ABHA

What does ABDM M1, M2 & M3 Ready mean?

It means Sehat Nxt is built around all three ABDM milestones: M1 for ABHA, M2 for sharing your records as a health information provider, and M3 for requesting records as a health information user, always with patient consent.

Can we create an ABHA for a patient at the counter?

Yes. The front desk can create a new ABHA or verify an existing one as part of registration, and link it to the patient's hospital record.

What is Scan & Share?

The patient scans the hospital's ABDM QR code with their health app and shares their profile. Sehat Nxt turns that profile into an OPD token at the desk.

Are records shared without the patient's permission?

No. Under ABDM, health records move between facilities only after the patient gives consent through their ABHA app.
